Summer 2017

June 5, 2017

Hello All,

With summer’s unofficial start upon us, things are certainly heating up at MiShinnah! All hands have been busy preparing for JUSTICE, our new site specific performance taking place in Riverside Park during sunset (7:30-8:30pm) on June 21, 2017 as part of Make Music New York, and Summer on the Hudson.

The Soldiers and Sailor’s Monument, 89th and Riverside.

Incorporating the diverse talents of dancers, choreographers, composers, and musicians, JUSTICE is inspired by the Ancient Greek mythology of Atlas and Athena, and pursues the timely message that we, as humans, must discover an equilibrium between ourselves, the earth, and the unfolding natural universe.

Beginning at the Soldier's and Sailor's Memorial Monument, the performance will proceed through multiple locations. Along the way, the audience/participants are encouraged to adopt a meditative attention to fully engage with their environment.  The culmination promises to be a magical experience as the audience will be asked to join in in an ethereal vocal hum at the pedestrian Tunnel at 84th and Riverside as the sun sets over the Hudson River.

If you can’t make it, have no fear! JUSTICE will be filmed and eventually released on DVD and Blu-Ray.

In anticipation of this performance, Elise Kermani and Co-Producer/Dancer Christine Elmo will be interviewed on WBAI’s “Making Music” radio show on June 9th, from 2:00-3:00 pm. Tune in to hear them discuss JUSTICE, along with previews of some of the recorded music from the upcoming performance. If you don’t live in the NYC area, you can listen live on WBAI’s website:  https://www.wbai.org/playernew.html

JUSTICE is a FREE performance, made possible by grants from the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council (LMCC Creative Engagement) and from the mediaThe Foundation, and of course, from the generous support of our donors!

As always, we would be thrilled if you could make a 100% tax deductible donation to MiShinnah to help us bring artistic endeavors to the public in a time when funding for the arts is routinely slashed and devalued. Pledges are encouraged at any size because no donation is too low! Any amount, starting at $1, will make you a part of this inclusive donor community that is assisting in the production of innovative and collaborative work. Your donation counts because your donation makes a difference.

Thank you with our warmest summer wishes,

Todd, Elise and Christine
